WarLords Review
Caught the show last night... Not too bad, with some gore that wasn't all that bloody, although Tiwa seems to be very affected by it haha...
It has been a very long time since i've seen Takeshi's boyish smirk, reminiscence of the days where he often starred in silly comedy films. And it is quite obvious he was really relaxed and enjoying himself in this show, with 2 screen titans to take the pressure off of him. Really happy seeing him relaxed for some reason haha... He IS one of my favourite actors after all :)
Jet Li's really starting to show his age here. He has never been really good looking with his pock-marked face, and now he seems to have put on some weight. Thankfully he still displays much of his lightning fast reflexes and moves...
Andy Lau seems bored and distracted in this movie. Perhaps in part because there wasn't really any breakthrough in the role assigned to him. Its yet another classical role that he has played a dozen times over. Somehow i get this feeling that he wasn't too serious about the acting. There was this scene where the 3 became sworn brothers and Andy's character had this expression on that seemed like he wasn't serious and was plotting something. It was only in the later part of the show where i realised that wasn't the case. His character was loyal till the end... Hmm... Perhaps its time he took a break?
All in all, the movie's alright... although i didn't really get the storyline. Was it about brotherhood? Or betrayal? The folly of men in pursue of power? Hope or hopelessness? Yeah they overtook Nanjing and consolidated the Qing Dynasty's power over China... but their role in history or the future wasn't really brought out nor addressed by the movie itself.
Recommendation? Watch it just to see Takeshi young and fun again :)
