Are you a fool?
Psalm 14:1
Only fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; no one does good! (NLT)
Been reading "Ten Great Works of Philosophy" for the past month or so. Slowest going book for me, EVER. Probably cause i find myself pausing every few sentenses to contemplate and digest what i've just read? Some of the stuff are really deep and meaningful, its amazing how alike we are even with two milleniums between us. Mankind has been searching for a meaning to life ever since its beginning, and will continue doing so until they finally come before God.
Socrates believed that there are 2 possible endings to a man's life.
1) That death is a state nothingness and utter unconsciousness
2) Death is a migration of one's soul from one plane of existence into another
The first can be likened to that of a sleep without dreams, which is to say that eternity would then be just a single night. This is death without God. No heaven, no other life. We exit this world into nothingness. There is no judgement waiting for us, no penalty for those who had committed great evil in their lives and gotten away with it.
Then there is The Ontological Proof of St Anselm. His argument for the existence of God is that, in order to say "There is no God", one must have had an understanding and definition of what God is, that is "That thing than which nothing greater can be conceived". And having this understanding, it would mean that the person would have acknowledged the existence of God already.
Its ok if you can't bend your brain round this paragraph... took me quite awhile to sort out the twists and turns within it. Add to the fact that i probably didn't explain it as well as St Anselm did, but his argument was written in Thees and Thous... Didn't think would have helped you either haha...
Now do you understand the verse i had typed out in the beginning? A fool who contracdicts himself. Corrupt and evil believing there
is no final judgement...
This is like the tip of the iceberg of what i've read and am digesting la... Haven't really had the time to think through everything and present my thoughts in a easier meal. Oh well... Go read it yourself haha...
