Sillipore yet again...

Was reading today's Straits Times and came across this article which talked about a 80 yr old Angsana Tree being cut down.

I don't claim to be a horticulturist or an avid nature lover, what got me fire up was the reason given by LTA (who ironically only recently proclaimed that they will be preserving the aged tree).

It went something like: The tree will be removed because of motorists who were not following the 40 km/h speed limit and risk colliding with the tree.

Like WTH! Shouldn't you be going after those darn motorists? And they didn't relocate the tree. They CUT IT UP. A living testament to our short history on this island. One who had faithfully recycled our air for us for the past 8 decades... Ok enough with the sentimentalism. :p

This is SO Singapore. Ignore the causal factors because its too tough to deal with them. Lets just take the easy way out. This is exactly like the chewing gum issue. Bravo. Maybe they'll pass a law to remove elderly citizens one day because we don't have enough houses, because we don't have enough hospital beds, because we can't make the pedestrian traffic lights blink longer...

Hey don't get me wrong. I do feel that we've got a fantastic government who's really responsible for us all. Or HAD? Hmmm... only time will tell?
